Disney’s Live-Action Mulan Gets a Release Date!

I have an awesome post to share with you today! It’s info that’s hot off the press from yesterday’s news – about an awesome upcoming movie release about one of our favorite fairy tales!

In March 2015, Disney started planning a live-action film about the legend. Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, two of the screenplay writers for Jurassic World and the sequel to Avatar, are rewriting the script of Mulan that Disney bought from Lauren Hynek and Elizabeth Martin. The original screenplay was considered only a starting point for a new story that will be a combination of the historical ballad of Hua Mulan and aspects of the animated Disney film Mulan of 1998.

And now, this Mulan remake finally has a release date:

November 2, 2018

So far, neither director nor actors have been announced. However, Disney is launching a world-wide search for a Chinese actress to play Mulan, perhaps in response to the petition to make the lead actress actually Chinese to match the legend.

I don’t know about you, but I am definitely looking forward to this movie, especially since it will keep one of my favorite characters from the animation – Mushu!

You can read more about the upcoming film at Hollywood Reporter and ENews.

Meanwhile, have fun listening to one of our favorite songs from the movie: “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” from the YouTube channel xFliiy.

Angela Clayton’s Costumery

While looking for ideas to post about, I stumbled upon the website of young seamstress Angela Clayton. She designs costumes more or less from scratch. Most of her dresses are historically inspired, but she started sewing in order to do cosplay. A few of the costumes are fashioned after Disney Princesses, though all of her designs are pretty enough for any princess!

For example, this awesome one of Merida on this Blog Post!

Or this purely Renaissance gown, found here.

Hello Again

Hello, again. I just wanted you to know that I am prepping to start blogging on here again. I love the idea of this blog, and I love that I have followers after only a couple weeks of consistently blogging! I just haven’t had much time, what with a full time job (or three part time ones) and then the move back to college and all it involves. But, I will make an effort from this point forward to post at least once a week, and I might be a little different than I had previously planned. Maybe a couple posts that aren’t strictly fairy tale, like things about, say, mermaids in general and possibly updates for whatever I’m in the midst of reading. And no more monthly themes, either; I mean, doesn’t it get a little boring to talk about only one thing for an entire month, regardless whether there is enough subject matter?

Oh, and in case you were wondering, I am an English Literature major, over halfway to getting my degree. And I am currently doing 16.5 credit hours, working 16-20 hours a week, helping with the college’s literary review, blogging at Zerina Blossom’s Books regularly, book reviewing a lot, involved in three book or writing related clubs on campus, and a involved in a couple other things. Life.

And look what I made in class! I’m not adept at Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator, so I used one of my electives to take a course called Design Fundamentals to teach me, since it is something I know I can use for blogging and such. This project asked us to turn an image of our favorite super hero into a cartoon-ish image using Illustrator. It’s not perfect, but I’m proud of it.

Not too bad for a first time, don’t you think? Anyone else a fan of Black Widow? Have any ideas of how to make the blog a little better?

Hello. This is Emily, the writer of this blog. I wanted to apologize for posting so rarely on this blog. Life got busy with work, friends, family, copy editing, weddings, and much more. I only have a few more weeks before returning to college and leaving all my friends and family at home for the next four months. Not to mention all the college planning. I hope to get this blog up and going again once college starts, but there might be a couple changes. We’ll see. Hope to see you then!
